Different Events Can Trigger Tough Feels

The events of this week and the sad passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth might have bought to the surface your own feelings of grief and that is okay to feel that way. However you are feeling you might take comfort in knowing that you’re not alone in feeling that way. Often big events like this can bring up older memories which can cause upset and force you to revisit the feelings of your own grief.

Acknowledging Grief

Understandably so, death is a subject that we don’t like to talk about and as such grief is often something that we try to hide away too. However, it is important to acknowledge your grief and understand that the way you are feeling is natural and it is okay to feel that way. Giving ourselves permission to be sad often lightens the burden we feel and this can make us feel better without anything else. You’ll feel a rollercoaster of emotions and anything can trigger something else off – anger will be one that might sneak up on you, but that is okay too.

Go Easy On Yourself

Remind yourself that the way you are feeling is okay and that if you’re not able to do life tasks for a while that is okay too. Being kind to yourself is definitely needed but also remind yourself when you are able to that you won’t feel this way forever.  Also, remind yourself that you have overcome events that you felt were devastating before & whilst you’ll likely always be sad, there will be a time when you start to feel better and more able to move on with life.

There Are No Answers

One of the things that many people struggle with understanding why an event happened and why their loved one has gone. Although this can be tough it is important to remember that there aren’t always answers. You can often drive yourself to distraction by replaying events and wondering if you could do anything differently. The truth is that there will be times when something happens and there are no answers and yes, that is tough and upsetting but it isn’t something that you are going to be able to change.

If you have any tips for dealing with grief we’d appreciate you sharing them.
