5 Educational Activities to Try During the School Holidays

5 Educational Activities to Try During the School Holidays – While the school holidays are in full swing it also means that your child will need to be entertained. There’s a lot your child can learn during this break however, where there are an abundance of activities for them to explore. Here are 5 you could try out that this pre prep school in North London recommends.

5 Educational Activities to Try During the School Holidays

1. Swimming in the School Holidays

Whether you head to the leisure centre to swim, go to an outdoor lido or even head to the sea, swimming is a good activity you could try out together. It could be their first time approaching the water or they are just learning how to swim freely, it’s always going to be an educational experience for them. It’s also something you can do together at very low cost, depending on where you take your child to go swimming.

2. Go out for a picnic in the School Holidays

A picnic is a good chance to help your child make decisions for themselves. Have them pick out a range of different snacks, sandwiches and other things to make them feel like they have contributed. It also gives them the opportunity to pick out their favourite foods and have fun with it. Make them feel like they have made a contribution and they will feel a lot more motivated to enjoy this picnic. It also makes them feel like they have learnt something about themselves.

3. Try out geocaching in the School Holidays

Geocaching requires you and your child to work out where a small piece of treasure is hiding on a hike or adventure. It’s like a real life, full scaled version of their smaller treasure hunts from when they were young. When you find a geocache following the directions online you can place your own treasure back down as a reward. This teaches your child not only about how to read directions, but learn how to be grateful as well.

4. Visit a farm or petting zoo in the School Holidays

This is a good chance for children to learn a lot more about the environment, animals and how they adapt to their habitats. They can even go along to a petting experience where they get to touch and feel the animals individually and feed them as well. For many children this is a fun and life changing experience that they will often think about for years to come.

5. Organise your own sports day at home in the School Holidays

A sports day doesn’t just have to happen at school, they can easily be organised at home and will be just as fun with their friends or family! You could set up some small teams, get your child involved in all of the activities and see who comes out on top. From egg and spoon races, wheelbarrow races and jumping sack races, there’s all sorts of fun you can have from home that still develops their skills.

Always provide time for your child to learn from you in lots of fun and engaging activities. You’d be surprised what lots of fun can do for a child’s confidence as well, lean into that and allow them to learn from you as much as they can. Then they can go back into school life after the summer break with a wealth of new skills to develop.
