When we first think of working from home we often think about working from the sofa, taking a nap when we want and generally not worrying about office life. However, actually, if you want to make working from home work for you then there definitely needs to be some effort put in. For example, if you’re working for an employer then an afternoon nap is likely to be a definite no-no. Here are 3 ways to make working from home beneficial to you.
Stick to a Schedule
One of the best things about working in an office is that we usually have a schedule that we need to stick to. Although this can at times feels stifling, it does mean that we are expected to be there at a certain time – and this means that we’re unlikely to deviate from that. The temptation when working from home, especially if the job comes with more flexible hours is that we ignore this and simply work when we want. At first, this seems like a great idea, but you’ll generally find you feel better and are more productive if you stick to a similar working hour pattern each day.

Make the Most of It
As well as being able to avoid the lengthy commute to work, there are definite ways to help life be a little easier if you’re working from home. For example, work hard and then take 10 minutes to put out the washing or put on the dinner. You can even run the hoover round or clean the bathroom if you’re quick. These little 5 minute bursts of energy mean that you can get chores done throughout the day – meaning you have less to worry about when your working day is done.
Cherish Your Time Off
When you are working from home it is tempting to pick up the laptop and dabble in a little work in the evening, or just check if you have had a response to an email you sent earlier. Whilst there isn’t any real harm in doing this every now and then it isn’t a habit you want to get into. Remember, you wouldn’t be able to do this if you worked in the office full-time so don’t let working from home change that too much.
