Keeping Comfortable On The Job

Renovating a home is hard work, often physical and repetitive. Even when you take a break from it you are likely to be faced with the mentally challenging side of any renovation project, planning, organising and financing a project can be exhausting. Staying comfortable and healthy through the process is very important. Here are a few hints and tips to keep you fighting fit and up for the challenge whilst staying comfortable throughout.

Stretching And Warming Up

Invariably when you first arrive on site you will be immediately faced with physical work. This work can be anything from setting up access equipment for the day ahead or simply unloading construction materials. This need to go from a relaxed state to one of intensive physical work can lead to injury. One of the best ways of protecting yourself against such injury is to warm up and stretch before commencing work. This needn’t be a full workout, you will be working hard enough all too soon. All that is needed are some simple stretching exercises and a simple 2-minute warm-up. Taking the time to do this is well worthwhile and wards off many painful back injuries. Again this stretching approach should be returned to after a period of physical work, if you have completed unloading heavy materials, for example, your muscles and joints will benefit from a good stretch. Keep this up and over time your overall health can increase substantially.

Staying Comfortable

Building sites can be tough places to find comfort, they are dusty and often you will be sweating due to exertion and the ever-present requirement to make the most of the better weather days that are inevitably going to be warm. Sweating isn’t pleasant at the best of times, but combined with a dusty environment it can be very uncomfortable and lead to sore patches of abraded skin. This is to be avoided at all costs. Obviously, antiperspirants help, but going further and selecting from a range of sweat proof undershirts designed specifically to cope with sweaty environments while keeping you comfy is a worthwhile investment to make and being comfortable naturally improves your mood and productivity.  When it’s time to get sweat stains out of shirts, whoever does your laundry will be pleased you have chosen sweatproof garments as this makes washing them effectively as simple as loading the machine and turning it on. No one in the midst of a construction or renovation project has time for elaborate cleaning regimes to rid shirts of those ugly sweat stains.

Hydrate Often

Drinking plenty of liquids is very important, as we’ve covered, construction work is physically demanding and often sweaty. This leads to an increased need for hydration. An often quoted guideline for a person’s intake of water per day is 2 litres, this is of course under average conditions. When you are working hard on a home renovation project in the summer months, you can expect this amount to be considerably higher. It is best to drink little and often, although drinking a lot and often is much more likely when dealing with the rigours of construction work
