Why is Remote Working Proving So Popular? – Although it isn’t possible for every industry or indeed every job role, we have seen in increase in the popularity of remote working over recent years. The trend started during the 2020 pandemic when offices were forced to close their doors and look for alternative ways their employees could work. However, since then it is something that has continued to be popular – why is that?
It Gives Everyone Flexibility
One of the biggest benefits to remote working is the flexibility that it gives everyone involved – and that doesn’t just mean employees. When people work from home they are often able to work unsociable hours much more easily – especially if they have existing commitments such as childcare to fit around. When the need to commute to an office is taken away it often means that being able to work at times outside of usual working hours becomes more possible.
For employees, it no longer means needing to take a day off to be at home to let in a repair man for example, because they’re able to be at home, let in the repair person and do their work – so it’s a win-win for everyone involved.

A happy workforce is a productive workforce and after all, who wants to manage a team of people that are ultimately miserable in their roles? Being able to work from home takes away some of the pressures of home life, which can significantly improve how people feel. For example, being able to put on some washing at lunchtime or get dinner on at 5 pm rather than much later after a long commute can help people’s home lives run much more smoothly – and that leads to people feeling much more content.

For the more adventurous of people, being able to work from anywhere is a massive benefit. This has opened up travel possibilities for so many people; no wonder remote working is proving so popular. When you consider that you can fly to somewhere like Italy for next to nothing, or that coffee in Cape Verde is much cheaper than in the UK it is easy to see why so many people choose to combine travel with remote working.
The time difference between places in Europe and the UK is so small too; which means that people able to work with UK companies becomes much more of a possibility.
Reduced Costs
From a business point of view, the reduced costs of having someone work from home rather than in a set office space is huge – especially if you have an uptake of enough remote workers that you can reduce the office space that you need to hire. Even if you have a rotation where staff come in a few days a month to touch base, you should be able to find that reducing your office space becomes a significant money-saving possibility.
Whether we’ll see remote working continue to be popular in the same way remains to be seen, but one thing for sure is that there are plenty of people hoping it remains a viable possibility.
