Dealing With The Heat When You’re Plus Size. We love a chat about the weather don’t we? We also love to complain that it’s too cold, too rainy and this week – too hot! However, with temperatures estimated to hit the 30s this week throughout lots of England, there are definitely people with some concerns. Here are some tips for dealing with the heat when you’re plus size.
Dealing with the heat is no mean feat. We all feel the strain of the blazing sun during summer days, and it can really take its toll on our energy levels and our well-being. But there are a few simple strategies you can use to beat the heat and stay cool during these hot days.

Dealing With The Heat – Dress Comfortably
Whilst everyone should absolutely dress comfortably for summer – the hot weather tends to fill plus-size people with dread – knowing that they will be hot wearing layers but wondering if they will be brave enough to get their arms and legs out. The truth is that we all deserve to be comfortable no matter the size of our bodies, so if you are more comfortable in shorts and/or a t-shirt then make sure you wear whatever it takes for you to feel cool in this weather. Stay in the shade when you can. If you’re outside, look for trees and other shady spots where you can take a break from the sun.
Similarly, if you’re indoors, try to keep the shades and curtains closed during the hottest part of the day.

Dealing With The Heat – Stay Home
Of course, staying home isn’t always possible but if you can then avoid being out and doing too much during the hottest part of the afternoon. If you can then carry chores, shop for groceries etc early in the morning before it gets too hot or in the evening when it has started to cool down a little. Try to keep your home and workspace as cool as possible. Use fans to keep the air circulating, and if you have air conditioning, make sure you’re using it wisely. Dealing with the heat also means taking regular breaks to rest and cool down.

Dealing With The Heat – Drink Lots
It goes without saying that at this time of year and with the weather as it is; you probably should be drinking more. A cocktail by the pool or a cup of iced coffee doesn’t really count. We tend to sweat lots when the weather is this warm so lots of water, squash and ice lollies are essential for ensuring that you don’t get dehydrated. Water is essential for keeping your body cool, so make sure you’re drinking plenty throughout the day. Avoid alcohol, caffeine and sugary drinks, as these can actually contribute to dehydration.
Of course, these are sensible rules for dealing with the heat whether or not you’re plus-size – feel free to share them with a friend!
